New East Union PreK-5 Elementary School, Practice Gym & Vocational Agriculture Classroom

Photos from our new facilities are showing on this homepage. On December 19, a reception was held for community members who served on one of these groups--"Invest in Our Kids", the 2009-11 Board of Education, or the Facilities Committee-- thanking them for their involvement in ensuring this project was a successful one. These community members previewed the new facilities.

On Tuesday, January 3, our new school officially opened for students. Our PreK-5 children had the fun opportunity just prior to the holiday break to see their classrooms and learn their way around the new school.

We invited the public to attend an Open House on Thursday, January 12 from 5:30-7:30 PM. We had our new Elementary School, Practice Gym and Vocational Agriculture classroom open to visit, as well as a free will donation chili supper sponsored by the Elementary PTO and the Junior Class, along with a home wrestling meet and basketball games. We had a wonderful turnout for these events and we were very pleased to have so many parents and community members see firsthand the new and beautiful facilities built for our students. Thank you for your attendance and we hope that you will return and visit our school again very soon!

Technology Update

The East Union School District has expanded the 1:1 Computer initiative to 8th Graders. The Boot Camp, for parents and students to attend in order to receive the computers, was held on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at 5:00pm. Students in grades 9-12 received their computers in August. We are proud of the fact that this has been a successful endeavor and has allowed more students to have access to technology.

Congratulations to all of our PBIS November 2011 Students of the Month!

We are proud of these grade K-5 students for their fine citizenship and good character! They are: Braeton Rinner (Grade K), Haydn Walters (Grade K), Elizabeth Hadley (Grade 1), Bryson Raney (Grade 1), Steven Fry (Grade 2), Ryleigh Kelley (Grade 2), Stephanie Post (Grade 3), Alexandra Brady (Grade 3), Beth McKnight (Grade 4), Jasmine Williams (Grade 4), Kimberly Hagen (Grade 5), Brody Grandfield, (Grade 5). Read more HERE about our fine Elementary representatives.

The East Union Alumni Association needs your help!

We are fundraising money for additional trophy cases to be put in the hallway of the new practice gym. East Union's current trophy case is full and over crowded. Additional trophy cases would spread out the trophies so they can be viewed better and there would be more room for new trophies that our students earn. If you would like to help by donating, please send donations with the bottom portion of this paper back to school with your child or you can mail the donations to the East Union Alumni Association, PO Box 15, Afton IA 50830. (Please indicate "trophy case project" in the memo) Please contact Roxanne Walter at roxwalter@iowatelecom.net for more information. We are very proud of our trophies that have been earned in the past and look forward to seeing more trophies in the future!

We have recently added more information about our construction project.

Also, all of our monthly district newsletters that are mailed to every boxholder in the East Union district are posted on the website. You can view all of our newsletters and read more about the district in this way, as well.

Would You Like to Volunteer?

East Union is committed to providing the best education possible for our students. One of the ways we can do this comes through the services that volunteers give to our school. If  you or someone you know wants to be of service to the school, please let us know. We can use parents, grandparents, friends, and neighbors in many and various capacities. We ask that anyone interested in volunteering complete the Volunteer Form and return it to the school. We will be in contact with you to set up assignments and times, once school begins. Thank you for your interest. We look forward to working with you.
